![[Pasted image 20250109160821.png]]
- It is possible for Bidets to contaminate the water supply of buidings. Requiring expensive cleaning and testing to verify that the water pipes are all clean.
- This can occur when water is sucked from a contaminated source through the Bidet hose, back into the main water supply.
## Certifier Response 18/12/2023
From the certifier Joshua Hawke, regarding Bidets, they sit outside compliance with the BCA. It is something that the plumber and hydraulic engineer needs to ensure complies against the provisions affiliated with AS/NZS3500. This is a very prescriptive based standard and as such they need to ensure they satisfy themselves with its compliance as well as ensure compliance with the requirements of fair trading are also met.
## Not Withstanding:
To avoid contamination of the water supply:
- all water points installed adjacent to a water closet (toilet) but not directly connected to a sanitary fixture must be protected by a high-hazard backflow-prevention device
- douche sprays or handheld hoses that can be placed over the rim of a toilet bowl cannot be used unless they are protected by a high-hazard backflow-prevention device; and
- all douche sprays or bidet seats must be WaterMark-certified and installed in accordance with plumbing regulations, technical standards and the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
It is not feasible to install these in apartment buildings, as the backflow devices are all required to be accessible and require individual drainage points.
## Actions to Prevent this Issue:
- [ ] Do not install Bidets in Class 2 Buildings.
