# Effluorescence from Mortar Mix ### Issue Image: ![[Pasted image 20250113175123.png]] ## Issue Description: - Efflorescence is a term used to describe white deposits of crystalline salts on a masonry surface. Left to continue unabated, it can cause ongoing problems. - Efflorescence occurs when moisture moves through substrate, transporting minerals salts with it and leaving a deposit of crusty white mineral salts. The moisture either needs to be blocked or exhausted to prevent efflorescence from taking place. ## Actions to Prevent this Issue: - [ ] the Project Manager shall ensure that only washed river sand is used for the mortar mix. - [ ] The Project Manager shall ensure that an appropriate additive like [Efflock](https://www.efflock.com.au/) is used to further reduce the risk of efflorescence. ## Source
